Indore: Nearly 2,720 candidates took doctoral entrance test (DET)-2018 conducted by the Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) on Sunday for admission to 702 PhD seats lying vacant with supervisors. “As many as 3,687 candidates had registered for the DET of which 2,720 appeared in the test on Sunday,” said Prof VB Gupta, chairman of PhD cell at DAVV.

The registered candidates included many such candidates who are exempted from DET-2018. “Registration is compulsory even for candidates exempted from DET that’s why registrations figure is high whereas candidates taking exam figure was comparatively low,” Gupta said.

UGC-NET-JRF/UGC-CSIRNET-JRF/teacher fellowship holder or any other government/foreign research fellowship holder or have passed MPhil (as per UGC Regulations 2009) with course work are exempted from DET. These candidates would get admission directly.

The DET-2018 was held at 22 centres on the UTD campus. “The exam was held peacefully and fairly,” Gupta said adding that no complaint of malpractice was reported from any centre. At some centres, candidates had not reached without photocopy of identity proof so they were initially denied exams. However, they were later allowed to take the test.

“In the instructions for exam, we have mentioned that it is mandatory for examinees to bring along original identity proof and its photocopy. Some candidates had not brought photocopies of ID but they were not denied exam,” Gupta said.

“The university signalled at releasing the results of DET-2018 within a fortnight. We will declare the results in the last week of May so that the candidates who could not get through the DET could take MPhil entrance test,” he said. MPhil entrance test is to be held on June 3.
