Riya Arolkar wins titles

Mumbai : Riya Arolkar, after winning the women’s singles final yesterday, won the u-17 girls’ singles and doubles crowns and then clinched the u-19 singles title to steal the show in the Servo Greater Mumbai district badminton championship, jointly organized by Jitesh Padukone Shuttlers’ Academy and North Indian Association (NIA) under the aegis of GMBA. In the u-17 singles final, Riya, a student of Jai Hind college, comfortably defeated Rudra Rane 21-13, 21-12 and in the doubles, she teamed up with Hrissha Dubey to overcome Rudra Rane and Saniya Shivalkar 21-11, 19-21, 22-20 in a closely fought final at the NIA badminton courts. In the women’s and girls’ u-19 finals, Riya played with great finesse as she beat the same opponent, Kareena Madan to emerge victorious.

The men’s group was dominated by Viplav Kuvale as he secured an easy 21-6, 21-9 win over Siddhesh Aroskar in the singles final and then partnered Firoz Mulani to win the doubles crown.
