Shajapur (Madhya Pradesh): Police used water cannons and detained several Youth Congress workers in Shajapur on Monday after protesters attempted to march towards the Collectorate during a demonstration against the Central government.
Youth Congress workers had gathered at the bus stand to protest over inflation, unemployment, the education system and the NEET paper leak issue.
They also demanded the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the alleged use of pellet guns during a protest at Jantar Mantar and the reported use of AK-47 rifles in Bihar.
After a public meeting, protesters marched towards the Collectorate but were stopped by police barricades near the depot. When workers attempted to move ahead, police deployed three water-cannon vehicles to disperse them.
Several protesters later sat on the road. Police removed them and took several Congress leaders and workers in buses to the police lines.
Youth Congress national president Uday Bhanu Chib, Madhya Pradesh Youth Congress president Yash Ghanghoria, senior Congress leader Sajjan Singh Verma, Tarana MLA Mahesh Parmar, Morena MLA Dinesh Gurjar and Congress leader Neetu Sikrawar participated in the protest.
Shajapur Youth Congress district president Jayant Sikarwar, Ramveer Singh Sikarwar, city president Vipul Dikshit, district Congress president Nareshwar Pratap Singh, Irshad Khan, Satya Baatre and Deepak Nigam were also present.
SDM Manisha Vaskale said protesters had permission to demonstrate only at the meeting venue and action was taken after they moved beyond the permitted area.
