World No-Tobacco Day: Dhar Achieves Major Success In Anti-Tobacco Drive

Dhar (Madhya Pradesh): Under collector Priyank Mishra and chief medical officer RK Shinde's leadership, Dhar district has achieved exceptional results in tobacco control during 2024-25 through the National Tobacco Control Programme.

Giving information, district nodal officer Sanjay Bhandari and tobacco control department under the health department said that the district's comprehensive approach encompassed intensive awareness campaigns across schools, colleges, police departments and municipal bodies.

Over 152 teachers participated in educational programmes while street plays and poster campaigns reached the masses about tobacco's harmful effects.

Law enforcement efforts yielded significant results with 255 violations recorded under COTPA Section 4, generating ₹2,550 as fine. Moreover, continuous monitoring ensured compliance in public spaces and educational institutions.

The district's Tobacco Cessation Centre emerged as a beacon of hope, serving 1,533 individuals with remarkable success. Of those counselled, 465 people successfully quit tobacco usage, representing a 42% quit rate that demonstrates the programme's effectiveness.

Capacity-building initiatives trained 187 officials across various departments, ensuring sustained enforcement capabilities.

The coordinated approach through District and Block Level Coordination Committees enabled seamless inter-departmental collaboration.

Several educational institutions pursued Tobacco-Free certification, creating healthier environments for students. Notably, the district maintained zero incidents of illegal e-cigarette sales.
