Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh): Acting on a tip-off, the cops raided Sulia Tippa village where raw liquor was being made from Mahua on the banks of the Kalisindh.
Furnaces were burning on the banks of the river and liquor was being made in large pots. Suddenly, the police raided at the den but six accused escaped though one was caught. The liquor mafia had filled the liquor maker ‘Mahua Lahan’ in cartons and kept it grounded. The cops dug out these cartons.
Ghattia station in-charge Vikram Singh Chauhan was informed that people of Mogia community are making liquor in Sulia Tippa and are selling it from village to village. On Sunday, a raid was conducted at Sullia Tippa after verifying the inputs. Here seven people were found making liquor on the banks of Kalisindh river. These people were making country-made from Mahua Lahan. For this, they had collected a large quantity of Mahua Lahan. Lahan was being boiled in a large pot filled with furnaces.
The liquor was being prepared through the steam emanating from it. On seeing the police, six accused escaped but one was arrested. He told the police that Mahua Lahan is buried in the ground after filling it in boxes. When excavated at the said location, the plastic bags were found to have Mahua Lahan and were seized. The arrested accused told that they used to sell the prepared liquor from village to village. The station in-charge said that 75 liters of raw liquor and Mahua Lahan kept in 15 cartons have been seized.
