Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh): Just a day before the polling for the Ujjain Municipal Corporation (UMC) elections, the Pensioners Association opened a front against the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government. Expressing displeasure over getting 17 per cent less DA than other state and Union government employees, the agitators announced the use of NOTA in the UMC elections. There are about 40 thousand pensioners of the State government in Ujjain district.
Pensioners are upset that they are being given 17 per cent less DA despite rising inflation. The pensioners formed a human chain at Tower Chowk here on Tuesday and raised slogans. They were carrying placards with slogans in their hands which read if no DA arrears, then no vote. Don’t embarrass us by asking for votes.
The Pensioners’ Association president Arvind Singh Chandel informed that due to less DA pensioners are finding it difficult to run their household in the age of rising inflation. Shivraj government is not ready to listen and solve the problem of 4.50 lakh pensioners. It will be opposed by use of NOTA in municipal and panchayat elections. The mirror will be shown to the government in the assembly elections also, he warned.
