Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh): Medical work is service and service takes priority over money. Many businesses can be done to earn money, but medicine is a service in itself. A doctor needs to not only understand the disease of the patient but also understand the patient as well, only then the relationship between the patient and the doctor can be good.

The above views were expressed by eminent paediatrician Dr Shripad Deshmukh in a programme organised on the occasion of Doctors' Day at the Bharatiya School, here on Friday. Dr Deshmukh said that the life of a doctor is full of struggles, whose main aim is to relieve the suffering of the patients. “We should respect every doctor. Good and true doctors are needed in this country. Certainly, if the younger generation takes a pledge, then this country can get many more good doctors in future,” he added.

Academic director Dr Girish Pandya honoured Dr Deshmukh by presenting shawl, shriphal and memento. The guest was welcomed by the director of the institution Amrita Kulshrestha. Priyanka Chawalkar conducted the proceedings while Dr Tanuja Kadre proposed a vote of thanks.
