Indore :  The Department of Higher Education has taken in its hand the right to appoint contractual teachers in Government colleges and made the process online. Previously, the right was with the principal.

“For session 2014-15 onwards, all appointments of contractual teachers would be done by the DHE,” an order issued by the DHE said.

It also released guidelines for appointment of teachers as per which the only right, the principals would have been of identifying vacant posts.

The principal is required to identify posts keeping sanctioned positions and student-teacher ratio fixed by the University Grants Commission in mind. They then have to give information on number of vacancies in their respective colleges, course-wise.

The DHE would notify the positions and then call applications. The applicant would be required to select, priority-wise, 10 colleges he/she is looking forward to work with. The applicant may get appointment on any one of the 10 colleges.

“It’s just like centralised online process for admission,” said Indore division additional director (higher education) Narendra Dhakad.

With seven days of receiving appointment letter, the candidates need to report to the college allocated to him/her.

The DHE said that the appointment would be of 11 months in a year. After every semester, the contractual teacher would be sent on holiday for  15 days.
