Ratlam (Madhya Pradesh): To ensure public safety during the rainy season, collector Rajesh Batham has instructed the commissioner of Municipal Corporation Ratlam and Chief Medical Officers (CMOs) of all urban bodies to take immediate action.

They must identify areas in the city where waterlogging may occur and prepare to address potential blockages in drains and sewers.

The authorities are also tasked with identifying trees that might fall due to strong winds and rain, and taking necessary actions to trim branches. It is crucial to prevent rainwater accumulation by ensuring that drains and sewers are clear and properly covered. Notices will be sent to owners of dangerous and dilapidated houses to prompt necessary repairs.

A control room will be set up to operate 24 hours, keeping records of JCBs and crane drivers available for emergencies. Open wells and step wells without barriers will be fenced off to avoid accidents.

Additionally, the Collector emphasised the need for a reliable supply of clean drinking water. Chlorine tablets will be distributed to maintain water quality. Past heavy rains have damaged roads and culverts, so inspections and repairs are required immediately.

To prevent diseases, insecticides will be regularly sprayed and if supplies run low, urgent actions will be taken. Coordination with the Food and Drug Administration will help stop the sale of spoiled food items, ensuring public health and safety during this critical time.
