Indore : Rasoma junction is the busiest on the bus rapid transit system (BRTS) of the city. Thousands of vehicles cross this junction which is surrounded by malls, showrooms, hotel, bank and other commercial institutions.
Despite a busy junction, it turns into a virtual swimming pool during rains, thanks to choked drains. Major problem occur at the left turn from Medanta Hospital to MR-9 as vehicles submerge in water logging there. This is nothing new and commuters have been experiencing this ordeal for 3-4 years but responsible IMC officials turn a blind eye to this problem. Vehicular traffic makes the situation grim and also affects traffic flow from Vijay Nagar to LIG square.
“There is no change in situation even after construction of the BRTS. Many officials must have passed through this road several times but they didn’t take any action. We have lodged several complaints but except for widening the road, they didn’t do anything worthwhile,” Sachin Jain, a local resident, said.
Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) took some action and cleaned the choked drains but they left the holes open, making it an accident-prone zone.
“We are in customer-based services and we have to take care of their needs. Inundated square not only affects our business but also makes it difficult for commuters to remain dry as they have to wade through knee-deep water,” Pawan Rathore, manager at sweetmeat shop, said.
Hotel administration, showroom owners, bank administration and marriage garden’s care takers have lodged many complaints with the IMC, local corporator, district collector and others but in vain.
People going to Medanta Hospital too face trouble but they don’t have any other choice.
“Officials must take action to clear water logging in this 300 metre area, especially at the junction. At least they should take step to release stagnated water into a vacate plot or should work again on the engineering and construction of the roads, connecting at this junction,” Rathore added.
