Indore : People and party activists expressed their annoyance over hike in railway fare and freight and they staged dharna, on Saturday.

The Congress leaders and workers led the protest. MLA Jitu Patwari and his supporters also staged a dharna at Rau railway station while other Congress leaders made mockery of railway fare hike by distributing sweets to passengers.

A day after announcement of fare hike by the railways, the congressmen hit the streets. The only Congress MLA of city Jitu Patwari led over 50 party workers and staged dharna at Rau railway station at 10am.

The workers sat on tracks and blocked movement of meter gauge trains. When a train reached Rau station, the personnel of RPF led by Inspector Mukesh Anandkar dispersed the workers and vacated the tracks.

Anandkar said that under Section 147, 145, 156, 174 of Railway Act, a case has been registered against 25 unknown and 5 know persons including Rau MLA Jitu Patwari, City Congress president Pramod Tandon and city Women Congress president Sharmila Dholpure. Experts say under these sections, the accused would be arrested. Hence, those who are booked will be arrested and presented before the court.

Patwari said that the fare hike is anti-people and we demand immediate rollback.

On Saturday evening, a few Congress workers showed mockery on fare hike at the railway station. They distributed sweets to passengers by wearing mask of PM Narendra Modi.

On Sunday morning, a few Congress leaders are also expected to stage demo at railway station against the fare hike.
