Indore : Immersion of gigantic Ganpati idols made of PoP is not something that Mayuri Singh, a teacher, takes kindly. “It harms aquatic life by contaminating water bodies with chemicals and heavy metals,” she added.
Singh family, which has opted for a green Ganesh idol, thinks that festivals and its rituals should be observed in such a manner that it doesn’t cause any environmental damage.
Ajay Singh said, “All devotees should take a step in the right direction and make positive changes in celebrating this auspicious occasion. Many pandals which are setup in various areas throughout the city play music at a very high decibel in the name of celebrations, but this leads to noise pollution.
Authorities concerned should keep a check on such activities.”
Kunda Pawar, eldest member of their family, said that when she was young she used to make Ganpati idol all by herself at home with flour, clay and other homemade materials.
But now many buy idols from the market without ensuring that these are not made of harmful material so that when immersed it will not cause harm to the environment.
