Indore (Madhya Pradesh): As the Bohra community prepares to welcome its New Year starting June 26, Indore is all set to become the global hub of spiritual and cultural harmony — with a pioneering commitment: hosting a completely zero-waste event.

The 10-day live broadcast of sermons (waaz) by the revered religious leader Dr Syedna Ali Qadar Mufaddal Saifuddin Saheb will be relayed from Indore, drawing over one lakh followers from across the globe, including countries like Africa, Kuwait, Dubai, Australia, New Zealand, Yemen and the United States.

In a forward-thinking initiative, Indore Municipal Corporation, in collaboration with the Bohra community, has vowed to conduct the entire spiritual gathering as a zero-waste event — making it a benchmark in sustainable urban hosting.

Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav, who reviewed the preparations at the venue, highlighted the significance of the event for the city. “It is a matter of immense pride for Indore that the spiritual discourse of Syedna Saheb is being relayed from here. This is not just a religious event, it is a global example of sustainability in action,” he said.

Bhargav praised the Bohra community’s sense of discipline and ecological awareness, stating, “Their cooperation will ensure that traffic, cleanliness and hospitality standards remain exemplary. Indore will truly reflect the ideals of a sustainable and spiritual city.”

Key eco-friendly initiatives include:

Zero Waste Management: All waste generated during the event will be segregated, processed, and prevented from reaching landfills.

Water Sustainability: Used water will be treated and reused, while rainwater harvesting systems will be deployed to recharge groundwater.

Clean Energy Commitment: The community will offset their carbon footprint by planting 41,000 saplings in and around Indore, under the aegis of the Municipal Corporation.

Global invitation and local pride

Calling on global followers of Syedna Saheb, the mayor extended a heartfelt invitation to attend this historic and eco-conscious event. “Those who missed the Chennai programme must not miss this opportunity. Indore is ready to welcome the world with open arms and green values,” he added.

“With preparations in full swing and an unwavering focus on cleanliness, environmental responsibility and spiritual depth, Indore is set to show how tradition and sustainability can go hand in hand — making this New Year celebration one to remember, not just spiritually, but environmentally too,” he went on to add.
