Indore (Madhya Pradesh): In a powerful message delivered at Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya’s Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET), higher education minister Inder Singh Parmar emphasised that India’s emergence as a global leader by 2047 depended on implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) grounded in Indian knowledge systems.

He was speaking at the inauguration of the university’s new design institute, where the Bachelor of Design course was also officially launched.

Parmar noted that the NEP was not just a policy reform but a cultural revival aimed at reducing academic burden, hiring quality educators and reviving value-based learning.

“Our campuses like UTD and RNT were once global centres of excellence. It’s time we reclaim that legacy,” he said.

The minister also highlighted the severe shortage of teaching faculty across universities and assured that over 2,000 appointments would be made by the year-end. If universities delayed recruitment, the state may act through the MPPSC, he said.

As part of NEP implementation, a new first-year undergraduate curriculum is being designed to include Indian history, knowledge and traditions. Experts are being consulted to create these culturally rooted subjects.

In a notable alumni initiative, a civil engineering research and consultancy lab was inaugurated by the IET Alumni Association. Vice-chancellor Dr Rakesh Singhai shared that the university secured Rs 23 crore from the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) for 30 collaborative research projects, including partnerships with IITs.

One faculty member also received Rs 57 lakh for cancer treatment research. Future courses in fashion tech, dairy technology and architecture are planned.

Parmar called this a major step toward building a proud, self-reliant educational identity. While Executive Council members Dr. A.K. Dwivedi and Anant Pawar shared the dais with the minister, Registrar Prajwal Khare, IET Director Prof. Pratosh Bansal, and university faculty were also present on the occasion.
