Indore: A survey carried out by the Indore Municipal Corporation following the directives of Madhya Pradesh High Court revealed that nearly 140 hospitals and nursing homes are running illegally in the residential areas of the city. Besides, these medical facilities have no proper parking facilities and causing nuisances in the streets, the report said.
The IMC submitted the survey report before the Indore bench of the HC which in turn ordered the medical facilities, names of which figured in the report, to give in writing on an affidavit before November 13 as to why they constructed hospital on residential plots.
The hospitals and the nursing homes have also been asked to submit the affidavits mentioning parking arrangements made by them in their respective premises.
Lawyer for the IMC, Anand Agrawal said that the doctors took permission for construction of residential buildings but are carrying commercial activities from the houses. He also said that these hospitals in residential areas lack parking facilities due to which traffic problems occur in streets.
The irregularity surfaced when the High Court accepted a PIL on non- availability of parking facilities in hospitals and nursing homes in the residential areas.
The High Court directed the IMC to carry out a survey to find out hospitals and nursing homes running illegally and without mandatory parking facilities.
