Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Highlighting the remarkable contributions of the Narmadiya Brahmin community to India’s freedom struggle and its ongoing role in global progress, Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava said here on Saturday that the community’s illustrious history would be written anew by the next generation.

Speaking at the Narmadiya Brahmin Samagam, he said, “The Narmadiya Brahmins have significantly shaped our nation’s past and present, from taking part in the freedom movement to being known for their humility and integrity.”

The two-day event commenced on Saturday at Lalbagh, with thousands of community members from across the globe chanting “Narmade Har”. The programme began with the recital of Narmadashtak. Mayor Bhargava welcomed prominent dignitaries, including former Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, national poet Pandit Satyendra Sattan and former minister P.C. Sharma.

Mahajan praised the gathering as a convergence of ideas and urged participants to pledge toward nation-building. Pandit Sattan emphasised the community’s core values of truth, charity and compassion, which reflect the spirit of Narmada river’s preservation.

The first day saw thematic discussions on youth empowerment, women’s roles, IT professionals, doctors and soldiers, along with astrology and architecture.
