Khandwa (Madhya Pradesh): Three youths drowned while bathing in Narmada River at Brahmapuri Ghat in Omkareshwar on Saturday. A quick response team managed to save two youths, but one was left stranded in a whirlpool 200 feet deep.

Group was part of a 20-member family visiting from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, for darshan. According to police reports, 21-year-old Krishna Sahu went into deep water while bathing. Despite efforts to save him, he disappeared into the depths of the river.

Mandhata police said that four youths had entered the water at Brahmapuri Ghat, where the water level was low. They chose to swim in deeper areas between the rocks. Krishna, who did not know how to swim, became trapped in a whirlpool.

Homeguard jawan Chandra mohan Maurya and SDERF jawan Amit Verma, stationed at the ghat rescued two youths. A team of divers is currently conducting a search operation to locate Krishna.

Local authorities and divers have urged visitors to exercise extreme caution while bathing at the Narmada Ghats, as entering deep water can be life-threatening.

This incident marks the third drowning in the Narmada River in Omkareshwar within a week. Earlier incidents also resulted in fatalities. Omkareshwar Sailors Association secretary Arun Verma said that fluctuating water levels due to dam releases contribute to these accidents.
