Dewas (Madhya Pradesh): A pregnant woman was forced to deliver her baby at home after the 108 ambulance failed to arrive on time in Dewas on Tuesday.

The incident occurred in Ward No. 6, Khategaon.

Where, Arjun Mehandia, a laborer, called the ambulance for his wife Gayabai on Monday after she started having labour pains.

The ambulance service assured them it would arrive shortly, but after waiting for half an hour, the ambulance still had not reached.

As Gayabai’s pain increased, her mother-in-law and other women from the neighborhood helped her deliver a baby girl at home. After more waiting for the ambulance, Arjun had no choice but to put his wife and newborn on a handcart and head towards the hospital.

On the way, a loading vehicle driver saw them and offered help. He gave them a ride to the hospital, where doctors started treatment.

Both the mother and baby are reported to be in good health.

Arjun said that a previous sonography had predicted the delivery would happen at the end of January or early February, but labor pains started unexpectedly on Monday.

Despite calling for an ambulance, it did not arrive in time, and they had to manage the delivery at home.

Khategaon’s in-charge BMO Dr Ashutosh Vyas stated that after receiving information through administrative officials, a local ambulance was sent to the location.

However, by the time it arrived, the family had already reached the hospital.
