Chandra Shekhar Azad Nagar (Madhya Pradesh): A group of women, referred to as Nari Shakti, blocked NH 56 in Chandrashekhar Azad Nagar, demanding the arrest of Bohra woman who disrupted prayers at Shree Ram temple.

Background of the incident

As per reports, the woman identified as Batul Assad, who was preparing for IAS exam in Delhi, entered the temple during a worship session and misbehaved with temple priest Amit Shastri. Eyewitnesses reported that she kicked open the temple gate, interrupting the idol worship and confronted the priest in an inappropriate manner.

Following the incident, members of the Hindu community rallied together demanding swift action and prompt arrest and proceeded to the local police station to file a formal complaint. A case was registered.

There was a total bandh in the entire region on Saturday in response to the call given by members of Hindu organisations outraged at Shree Ram temple incident. Police assured the Hindu community that a team had been dispatched to Delhi to arrest the accused. However, as of now, no arrest was made, leading to widespread community unrest.

The protest drew attention from local officials, including SDM Sakharam Yadav, Jobat SDOP Neeraj Namdev who attempted to pacify protesters. Despite their efforts, the women remained resolute in their demands. As tensions escalated, Collector Dr Abhay Arvind Bedekar arrived and assured of prompt arrest. The women, however, insisted that the accused should also apologise at Shri Ram Mandir.

Resolution of the protest

After negotiations and assurances, protesters agreed to end their protest.
