Indore : The State Government has constituted a company to give momentum to the ‘Light Metro Train’ project and in all probability the Metro station would come up below the City railway station.
Talking to Free Press here on Wednesday, Managing Director of Rohit Associates, a consulting firm for the project Rohit Gupta said that the Draft DPR of the project was handed over to the State Government in October 2014.
The agency had also submitted ‘inception’ report to the State Govt in 2013, which was accepted by the State Cabinet. The government had also sought the utility report, which was submitted by the agency. He said that the final report would carry time period required for the mega project.
Elaborating features of the Rs 23000-crore project, Gupta said that the Metro station would be built underneath the City railway station. He said: “The train will cover Jawahar Marg and MG Road through underground route.” He further added that the total length of Metro route would be 94.6 km. Out of which 9km would be underground (Collector’s office to Marimata, Collector’s office to Railway Station, and Bada Ganpati to Railway Station via MG Road.)
The remaining 78 km would be elevated and only 8 km would be on surface (at left side of Super Corridor). The Light Metro would have three coaches with a capacity of 460 passengers. Though, the maximum speed of the train would be 90 kmph, but most likely it would run at the average speed of 35kmph.
