Indore : The Treasure Island officials have called IMCs measurements as improper and have raised objections on its measurement techniques.
IMC too has asked the mall authorities to measure the premises on their own.
It is to be noted that the IMC is carrying out a drive to measure the major commercial spaces in the city to minimize the property tax evasions.
Earlier the IMC had considered the self assessment carried out by the building owner or developer, but then found that several are evading taxes taking leverage of the facilities provided by IMC. And there was a large difference between the declared measurements and the ones which were measured by IMC authorities on sudden inspection.
Based on these differences, the mall authorities were asked to pay a handsome penalty of Rs4cr to which the mall authorities had allegedly refused.
Sources said that the Mall’s personnel had allegedly challenged the IMC measuring methodology by stating that they included the parking lot, and common areas in the measurement.
A hearing on the matter was organized at the IMC headquarters on Saturday, where the top officials said that as per the regulations, the mall authorities have commercial space permissions from the IMC and being a commercial space, every inch counts.

If the sources are to be believed than earlier, the mall authorities were even knocked once by the Central excise department for the “commercialization” of parking and not paying the taxes to the department for the same.
