Alot (Madhya Pradesh): A vaccination drive for children under five years is running in Alot block, but health workers are struggling with staff shortages. The area needs 36 health workers, but only 23 are working now.

The health department is trying to vaccinate all children between zero and five years old in the area. However, 13 health worker positions remain vacant, making it hard to reach all 192 villages in the block.

Health workers or ANMs visit villages every Tuesday and Friday to give vaccines to children. They also provide health education to pregnant women during these trips. Recently, health worker Priyanka Dabi completed vaccination work in Dhaturia village.

Dr Devendra Maurya, who leads the medical team at Alot Civil Hospital, said he wrote letters to higher-ups asking for more workers and doctors. The shortage means it takes much longer to visit all areas that need help.

To solve this problem, health workers now visit villages on other days too, not just Tuesday and Friday. Dr Maurya said the team wants every child to get vaccines and every pregnant woman to receive proper health care. The vaccination program will work much better once all empty positions get filled with new health workers, Dr Maurya added.
