Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The state government has announced a major investment of Rs 700 crore for the upgrade and redevelopment of Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital (MYH), the largest government-run healthcare facility in the region, and the District Hospital.

Health minister Rajendra Shukla made the announcement in the state legislative assembly on Thursday. Minister Tulsi Silawat said, “This investment will significantly strengthen healthcare services in Indore and will be a milestone in the medical sector. MY Hospital is not just a medical facility for Indore but also a crucial centre for patients across the Malwa region.”

The redevelopment aims to modernise the hospital’s infrastructure, ensuring better facilities for patients and medical professionals alike. Despite the planned expansion, the existing MY Hospital building will continue to operate.

Officials disclosed that the Building Development Corporation (BDC) and hospital planners were to present the project proposal to the chief secretary but were unable to do so due to scheduling constraints.

What will be new after the infra upgrade

-To solve parking issues within the hospital premises, two multi-level parking facilities will be constructed for doctors and patients.

- A new 300-bed hostel will be developed for nursing students near the Government Nursing College on the MYH campus.

MYH serves 4,000 patients daily

Currently, MY Hospital operates with a capacity of 1,152 beds and caters to approximately 4,000 patients daily in its outpatient department (OPD).

However, the hospital has been facing persistent infrastructure challenges, including seepage issues, making the proposed expansion and renovation a much-needed intervention.

MYH has a rich history

Established 75 years ago by Maharaja Yeshwantrao Holkar, MY Hospital holds historical significance in the region.

Although the idea for the hospital was conceived in 1937, World War II delayed its construction. The project finally commenced in 1950 and was completed in 1956 with an initial capacity of 720 beds. At the time, the total construction cost was Rs 65.55 lakh, a significant
