Piplia Mandi (Madhya Pradesh): A couple was arrested on Monday for allegedly honey-trapping and extorting money from a constable in Mandsaur district. The constable named Gopal Malviya, who is stationed at Neemuch Police Line, reported the incident at Piplia Mandi outpost on May 31.

The accused woman identified as Ranju Tiwari lured constable Malviya to her home, claiming her husband Harish Tiwari was abusive and needed to be talked to. Upon arriving at her house, Gopal was threatened by Harish, who accused Gopal of false allegations and demanded money.

Ranju and Harish also warned Gopal that if he did not provide money, they would falsely accuse him of rape. Fearing for his reputation, Gopal paid them a total of ₹1.70 lakh, which included cash and a UPI transfer. He even recorded a video of the cash handover as evidence.

Gopal said he knew Ranju for about a year and a half, but this encounter turned into a nightmare. After feeling distressed about the situation, he decided to file a complaint. Following an investigation, the police arrested both Ranju and her husband on Monday night.

Piplia Mandi outpost in-charge Dharmesh Yadav said that action was taken based on Gopal's complaint.

He added that an investigation revealed that Ranju had a history of similar crimes, using her charm to manipulate and extort money from her victims. An investigation is underway to uncover rest of the cases. The couple is originally from Dewas but currently resides in Lunaheda village, Mandsaur.
