Khargone (Madhya Pradesh): An eight-foot-long python weighing about 50 kg was spotted at the bank of the Veda River near Helapadava village in Khargone district on Monday.

Kirtibala Avasthi, a forest officer present on the spot immediately contacted snake charmer Ankush Avasthi who caught the snake and later released it into the forest.

According to Chiriya forest range officer Sanjay Chouhan, pythons are usually found in moist places near the banks of the rivers. Snake charmer Ankush Avasthi said, “Snakes are environment-friendly.

They are also a friend to the farmers as they do not cause any harm to the crops. Instead, they eat the insects which destroy the crops.” He claimed to have successfully rescued 4,000 snakes, including pythons until now.
