Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A liver transported from Goa to Indore on a regular flight was successfully transplanted into a 67-year-old man on Thursday, giving him a new lease on life. The operation took place at the Vishesh Jupiter Hospital in the city.
Upon arrival, it was immediately taken to a private hospital, where it was transplanted into a 67-year-old patient in need. The liver was airlifted from Goa at 12:31 PM and landed at Indore Airport at 4:22 PM. With the support of traffic police and administration, a green corridor was created, allowing the organ to reach Jupiter Hospital in just 15 minutes at 4:37 PM. The liver was donated by a 45-year-old man who suffered a brain haemorrhage.
According to information, a 45-year-old man, identified as Ajay Giri, was admitted to a private hospital in Goa on January 26 after suffering a brain haemorrhage. Despite medical efforts, his condition did not improve, and doctors declared him brain dead on January 29. His grieving family agreed to donate his organs, allowing surgeons to retrieve his liver.
After the family's approval, the doctors performed surgery and retrieved his liver. The organ was then packed and transported to Indore via a private airline. The organ reached Indore and was sent to the private hospital immediately, where the receiver was prepped and ready for an operation. Dr. Sanjay Dixit, founder-secretary of the Indore Society for Organ Donation, confirmed that the patient is recovering well. "Giri’s posthumous organ donation has given him a new lease on life," he said.
