Last Shravan Somwar 2025: Lord Mahakal’s Grand Sawari Taken Out With Full Devotion & Fervour In Ujjain; Thousands Of Devotees Participate— Video

As Monday also marks the last Sharvan Somwar (Shravan’s last Monday), Ujjain city is already immersed in devotion, and is bustling with joy, along with lakhs of devotees thronging Mahakal temple.

Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh): Avantika Nagri ‘Ujjain’ is excited for Baba Mahakal's last Shrawan Sawari 2025. Lord Mahakal's traditional sawari (city tour) began at 4 in the evening on Monday with chants of 'Har Har Mahadev'.

The spiritual procession was followed by thousands of Mahakal's devotees. 

To enhance the grandeur of the event, four tribal artist groups participated in the procession.

Additionally, tableau displayed Madhya Pradesh’s diverse tourism themes - including wildlife tourism, religious tourism, historical heritage, and rural tourism, adding cultural vibrancy to the spiritual occasion.

Before the procession began, a formal worship ritual of Lord Shri Chandramouleshwar was held in the Sabha Mandap of the Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple.

Mahakal blesses devotees in 4 forms

Lord Mahakaleshwar appeared in different divine forms during the procession - in a palanquin as Shri Chandramouleshwar, on an elephant as Shri Manmahesh, on a Garuda chariot as the Shiv Tandav idol, and on a Nandi chariot as Shri Uma-Mahesh.

The palanquin of the Lord was worshipped in the temple’s assembly hall. At the temple’s main gate, armed police personnel presented a ceremonial salute to the deity seated in the palanquin. 

The procession also included mounted police officers, armed police force, home guards, bhajan groups, cymbal troupes, and a police band.

Sawari Theme 2025: Major Tourist Destinations of Madhya Pradesh

This year’s procession celebrated the diverse tourism offerings of Madhya Pradesh. It was brought to life by folk and tribal artists in traditional attire.

Wildlife Tourism: Kanha, Pench, Ratapani, and Panna Tiger Reserves

Religious Tourism: Sandipani Ashram (Ujjain) and Ektam Dham (Omkareshwar)

Historical Tourism: Gwalior and Chanderi Forts, Khajuraho Temples

Rural Tourism: Homestays and temples of Orchha

The route

The traditional procession route followed through Mahakal Chauraha, Gudri Chauraha, Bakshi Bazaar and Kahaarwadi, proceeding towards Ramghat.

At Ramghat, the Lord was ritually bathed with the waters of the Kshipra river and worshipped with due reverence.

From there, the procession continued through Ramanujkot, Modh ki Dharamshala, Kartik Chowk, Khati ka Mandir, Satyanarayan Mandir, Dhaba Road, Tanki Chauraha, Chhatri Chowk, Gopal Mandir, Patni Bazaar, and Gudri Bazaar, finally returning to the sanctum of Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple.
