Khargone (Madhya Pradesh): A government school headmaster in charge was suspended by the assistant commissioner of the tribal development department for being drunk at work and resting during duty hours,

The incident was reported on Saturday afternoon at Chenpura village under the Jhirniya development block, situated about 70-kilometre away from the district headquarters. The headmaster in charge was identified as Santosh Balekar.

According to information, the department swung into action after some of the villagers and Balekar’s fellow teachers filmed his video resting on the cot in an inebriant condition during duty hours. They forwarded this video to the department's senior officials.

Taking cognizance of the matter, district project coordinator (DPC) KK Dongre sent Jhirniya block resource coordinator (BRC) Mahesh Dixit and his team to the village to investigate the reality behind the video. When BRC Dixit reached the school, he found him resting on the cot in a drunken state.

"Villagers said that due to the drunkenness of Santosh Bhalekar, they were facing difficulty in getting the children admitted to the school. We prepared Panchnama on the spot and sent a proposal to the DPC after taking statements from the villagers," said BRC.

The team that arrived for inspection sent the details including Panchnama to DPC Dongre on the spot. DPC Dongre has sent a proposal for suspension proceedings to the assistant commissioner Nilesh Raghuvanshi, who immediately suspended Bhalekar.

Department assistant director AB Gupta said that in the inspection conducted by BRC, the concerned teachers were found in a drunken state. They were not even in a position to talk.
