Indore : Common people could not digest CBI’s holding of ‘ Jan Sunwai’ at Residency Kothi on Friday, as the Central agency never holds such public hearing. Those participated in the hearing believed that it was an act by the agency to catch a big fish. They said that ‘ public hearing’ of the agency was nothing but to conceal its acts.

At the Jan Sunwai, people also observed ‘ antics’ of the sleuths as they sat and listened to complaints of people like their counterparts in the district administration, who hold ‘ Jan Sunwais’ at the Collectorate on Tuesdays.

“ It’s not the way the CBI officers work. I have never heard or seen such things in movies and soaps also,” a participant said. He attended the hearing to lodge a complaint against a corrupt official but left the venue fearing that the agency may later quiz him as well.

Senior officials of the CBI said that they were from Bhopal and they had come to Indore to help the victims of corruption. “ The aim of organising such public hearing was to encourage people to come forward and communicate with the agency properly and if required lodge their complaints,” Rishiraj Singh, Joint Director, CBI said.

He further said that it was an initiative to motivate people to fight against corruption and help them to lodge their complaints in the camps against any Central Government body or its officials. “ People can lodge their complaint against any unit of the Union Government including Railways, Airport, CPWD, LIC, BSNL and many others. Complaints against involvement of any Central officer or employee in corruption have also been taken up in the Jan Sunwai,” Singh said.

Talking about complaints of other civic bodies and their employees, which come under the jurisdiction of the State Government, the CBI Joint- Director said that such type of complaints were also accepted during the Jan Sunwai and the cases would be forwarded to the officers concerned with a covering letter of the CBI. “ After the response by the citizens it was decided to organise similar camps at Gwalior, Ratlam, Ujjain, Jabalpur and Bhopal in near future,” Singh added.

Shedding light on types of complaints received at Jan Sunwai, SP ( CBI) atindra Koyal said that they received complaints against authorities of Indore Airport, RRCAT, Western Railway, Postal Department, CPWD, United Insurance etc. Koyal further said that the veracity on the complaints has been done and appropriate actions would be taken.

Describing about the meeting of Chief Vigilance Officers ( CVO), Koyal said that 67 CVOs of the Central Government units participated in the meeting held after the Jan Sunwai. “ They were asked to detect officers who have been involved in corrupt practices,” Koyal said.

Cases like shown in ‘ Special 26’ is real Talking about the cases shown in a Bollywood flick “ Special 26”, in which actor Akshay Kumar and his team conducts fake raids as fake CBI officers, Joint Director, CBI Rishiraj Singh said that these type of cases are very common.

Singh said that due to unawareness about the working of the investigation agencies, various people become victim of these types of incidents in which fake officers raid their places and seized goods from there. “ The miscreants threatened people acting as officers of the Income Tax Department, Police, Crime Branch etc,” Singh said.

Sharing his experiences, the Joint- Director said that during his five- year tenure in Mumbai, he caught various fake officers there. It was a regular exercise there.

Explaining about the working of CBI, Singh said that the investigation agency never comes to raid at the residences of laymen and they always call the accused to their nearest police stations. “ People should aware about these cases and should directly contact the CBI or police to lodge their complaints,” Singh appealed.
