Jam Darwaza, a natural wonder

Indore : Scenic drive among clouds on a smooth road surrounded by lush green valley makes ‘Jam Darwaza’ a perfect spot to get away from the hassles of the city and closer to nature. Set at a distance of 53 km from Free Press office, it is a quick getaway for a weekend trip.

Jam Darwaza has a royal appeal that offers visitors a view of cup valleys and green hillocks. The most striking part of the route is waterfall, which runs across the route bypassing roadways.

Sharing the memories of their trip, homemaker Chanda Jadhav and artist Elmar Jadhav talked about various fun as well as religious spots around Jam Darwaza.

How to reach Jam Darwaza

To reach Jam Darwaza, one has to travel on the straight route from Indore to Mhow. Instead of taking highway route, you have to pass Mhow through the city route. After Mhow, you will come across a T-diversion, where right turn will take you to Vanchu Point and left turn leads to Choral Dham. Taking the turn towards Choral Dham, you will reach Jam Darwaza after driving straight from Dham for 8 km. New roads are under construction. You can easily take your car up the hill, but it is advised to have prior experience of driving on hills.

A journey through the past, pleasure lies in the route

Jam Darwaza is a scenic route that also acts as shortcut for commuting from Malwa plateau to Nemavar plains. It cuts short the trip by 20 km. However, one has to take requisite precautions while travelling on this route, as landslides are very common.

There are times, when you might have to drive reverse on the narrow road, so it is suggested that you hire a professional for the job. Jam Darwaza, unlike most tourist spots, is not a visiting point. It is popular for ‘journey’.

You can relive the era of Devi Ahilyabai Holkar, who often travelled through the route. The royal gate stands tall welcoming travellers and reminding them of natural beauty.

Experience purity, beauty and panthers!

“Jam Darwaza offers an experience of a lifetime, where clouds flow through people standing at the gate,” Elmar said. He elaborated that during rainy season, clouds often pass as foggy clusters creating an illusion of flying.

“During our trip, we spotted a beautiful young panther sitting on a block of wood,” Chanda said. She narrated how the panther fled because of door’s voice. “Panthers do not attack people, unless they are scared,” she added.
