Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A serious irregularity has surfaced in the annual examination conducted by Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, leaving hundreds of students unable to answer several questions due to format issues on the answer sheet.

The issue occurred during Tuesday's Entrepreneurship paper for the BA second year foundation group. Students were required to answer 50 multiple-choice questions, each carrying one mark, by marking the correct option on an OMR (Optical Mark Recognition) sheet. However, eight questions on the paper deviated from this format, making it impossible to answer them on the given sheet.

Out of the eight problematic questions, five were fill-in-the-blank type and the remaining three required students to mark answers as ‘Right’ or ‘Wrong’—formats not compatible with OMR-based evaluation. As a result, students were left confused and helpless during the exam, with no space or instructions provided to respond to those questions.

Objections were immediately raised at several examination centres. “Many students knew the answers but had no way to write them down. It’s unfair and stressful,” said a student appearing for the exam.

In response to the complaints, university officials stated that the issue has been taken seriously and will be reviewed by the Examination Committee. "We will take a decision in the interest of the students after the committee’s recommendation," an official said.

Meanwhile, a notice has been issued to the professor responsible for setting the flawed paper. The university administration has warned that if the professor fails to provide a satisfactory explanation, he may be blacklisted. “This kind of negligence directly impacts students’ academic records and is unacceptable,” the official added.
