Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Kidney patients at Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital (MYH) will no longer face long waiting times, as the hospital has got 10 new dialysis machines through CSR. With this, the total number of machines has increased to 18 in the hospital as the number was eight earlier.

The move comes as a relief for patients who visit the hospital daily for dialysis, as the procedure takes four to six hours per session. “The hospital’s limited machines often caused delays, but the new additions will help cater to over 50 patients every day.

Extra machines will ease the pressure and provide better care for patients," said Dr Ashok Yadav, superintendent of MYH. He added that dialysis is essential for patients whose kidneys are no longer functioning properly. MY Hospital offers this service free of cost, and demand has been rising.

Meanwhile, nephrologist Dr Ritesh Banode said that conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, and poor eating habits are leading causes of kidney failure. “A growing number of young patients facing kidney issues due to unhealthy lifestyles,” he added.

Hospital sources said that the new machines are a welcome addition, many patients are still in critical need of kidney transplants. “Currently, 169 patients are waiting for a kidney, relying on dialysis to survive. In 2023, 161 kidney transplants were conducted in the city, but the demand remains high,” the sources said.
