Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A two-day neurosurgery workshop titled "Microvascular Stimulation" commenced on Saturday at the auditorium of MY Hospital, affiliated with MGM Medical College.

The event is organised under the cerebrovascular stimulation course by the board of education, Neurological Society of India, and the department of neurosurgery, MGM Medical College.

The workshop was inaugurated by Dr Arvind Ghanghoria, dean of MGM Medical College, and Dr Ashok Yadav, superintendent of MY Hospital.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Ghanghoria emphasised the nobility of the medical profession. "Being a doctor is a privilege. In many ways, the profession is endowed with a divine responsibility, where the doctor’s hands can perform what often feels like miracles,' he said.

The scientific sessions are coordinated by Dr Zafar Sheikh as the course coordinator with Dr Rakesh Gupta as course chairperson.

The focus of the workshop is on Microvascular Stimulation (MVS) - a specialised neurosurgical technique used to relieve pressure on cranial nerves by separating them from nearby blood vessels. This procedure is particularly effective in treating conditions such as Trigeminal Neuralgia and Hemifacial Spasm.

The surgery involves accessing the brainstem region, identifying the offending vessel, and gently decompressing the nerve to prevent further compression.
