Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The driver and helper of a truck were booked for embezzling cigarettes worth Rs 16 lakh sent to Walmart in Rau from Mandideep, police said on Thursday. The incident took place in June but the report was lodged on Wednesday.

It is said that the accused unloaded the goods somewhere else instead of the scheduled destination.

When the company received an invoice without the goods, they informed the consigner. Further investigations are underway and a search is on for the driver and the helper.

Rau police station in charge Rajpal Singh Rathore informed the Free Press that a case had been registered against driver Sagar Binjwa and helper Chintu on the complaint of Ankit Tiwari, an official from the warehouse in Mandideep, under various sections of the BNS.

The complainant said in his complaint that he supplied cigarettes, biscuits, atta and noodles etc to Walmart from his warehouse. He had sent cigarettes in some trucks to the city but the receiver had informed that four truck-loads of the goods were not received.

The value of the goods is Rs 16 lakh. The complainant checked and found that the goods were sent according to the invoice.

The complainant further informed the police that when he asked his driver Sagar Binjwa, he replied that a youth from the receiving section of Walmart had met him and told him to unload the goods outside the premises and had also promised to give Rs 50000 to him.

The youth had assured the driver to give acknowledgement for the goods. The complainant had received an OK seal but the Walmart officials informed that they did not receive four truck-loads of cigarettes.

TI Rathore said that prime facie, the role of the driver and helper was found suspicious so they were booked and were being traced. They would give information about the youth who had told them to unload the goods outside the premises.
