Indore (Madhya Pradesh): An incident of stubble burning on the premises of Indore’s Agriculture College has sparked controversy and concern, especially as a video of the act went viral on Sunday morning.

The burning is said to have taken place on Saturday night and what makes the matter more serious is that the video was allegedly shared from within the college campus itself. Despite the growing outrage, the college administration has yet to issue an official statement.

Collector Asheesh Singh has imposed a strict ban on open stubble burning in the city and surrounding rural areas, citing increasing pollution levels. The incident not only violates the order but also raises questions about compliance and accountability within government institutions.

So far, several FIRs have been filed against farmers in police stations such as Shipra, Badgonda, Mhow, Kanadiya, Lasudia, Banganga and Sanwer for similar offenses. Law enforcement has taken action strictly against private individuals, which now places the Agriculture College episode under intense scrutiny.

Sources suggest that the college land spans across two police jurisdictions — Kanadiya and Banganga —making it unclear where exactly the burning took place. Senior administrative and police officials are currently investigating the matter. They are working to verify the authenticity of the viral video and identify those responsible for the violation.

The incident has become a double challenge for authorities already battling stubble burning in rural belts, now forced to address similar negligence within an educational institution.
