Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Municipal commissioner Shivam Verma directed officials at Government Veterinary Hospital to ensure that more than 150 dogs are sterilised daily to effectively control the stray dog population and provide relief to citizens facing issues related to stray animals.

On Saturday, he conducted a surprise inspection in the hospital at Chhawani. The visit focused on assessing the progress of the ongoing canine sterilisation programme, aiming to prevent the city from increasing its dog population.

During the inspection, the commissioner reviewed the operations and discussed current outcomes with officials. At present, around 60 dogs are being sterilised daily at the facility. However, the commissioner emphasised the need to significantly ramp up the pace and effectiveness of the programme.

Verma stressed the importance of organised and prompt action, stating that dog sterilisation is a critical part of the city's public health and animal welfare strategy.

Furthermore, the commissioner firmly directed that comprehensive post-operative care, timely medical attention, and proper reintegration of the dogs into their natural environments must be carried out strictly as per the prescribed standards, ensuring their safety, well-being, and overall humane treatment throughout the process.
