Indore (Madhya Pradesh): An 18-year-old youth committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance at his place under MIG police station limits on Thursday. Before taking the extreme step, he called a friend that he had consumed poison—but the friend initially believed he was joking.

The exact reason behind his drastic step is yet not clear as no note was found from his place.

According to the police, the deceased was identified as Rudra Roopnor, a resident of Sanjay Nagar. He was a first year student at a government college.

His friends said that he had been distressed for the past few days after his mobile phone broke. A recent argument with a girl is also being investigated, though they believed it could not be the reason for his suicide.

On Thursday, Rudra bought poison from a shop near Patnipura, claiming that he would mix it with wheat. Before and after consuming the poison, he called a friend, but the friend didn’t take him seriously at first.

When he told him that he consumed poison in real, his friends rushed to his place and found him alive. They immediately took him to the hospital, but his condition worsened on the way and he lost consciousness. After reaching the hospital, doctors declared him dead on arrival.

His friends further said that Rudra was a cheerful and friendly person. Even while being taken to the hospital, he was repeatedly asked why he consumed poison but chose to remain silent.
