Indore: Rooftop water harvesting system installed in over 73K buildings

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) officials, on Monday, said that the rooftop water harvesting (RWH) system had been installed in more than 73,000 buildings in the district, so far, under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan.

This information was shared during a meeting chaired by Pausumi Basu, director, central tour team, Union ministry of home affairs. District panchayat CEO Vandana Sharma, additional municipal commissioner Sandeep Soni and others were present at the meeting.

‘Jal Shakti Abhiyan-Catch the Rain, 2022’ has been implemented in all the districts of the state on April 1 and will continue till November 30. The progress of the work being done in the urban and rural areas of Indore district was reviewed at Monday’s meeting.

Basu was informed that Indore Municipal Corporation had taken by responsibility of getting the Jal Shakti Abhiyan implemented with public cooperation and that the work of cleaning of river drains and their channels, renovation of old wells and stepwells and deepening of ponds is also being done by IMC under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan. This work was started as a mass movement in the city and had started yielding good results, she was told.

IMC officials also informed her that they were developing 101 water bodies at an outlay of about Rs 13 crore under the AMRUT scheme. Of these, 53 water bodies had already been developed. This project will irrigate 589 hectares and recharge over 600 wells and tubewells.

Under the Pushkar Dharohar Samridhi Abhiyan, the work of renovation and capacity-building of old ponds, check dams and stop dams is being carried out. A total of 462 such projects were sanctioned, out of which 245 have been completed. The construction work on the remaining is in progress.

At the meeting, Basu said that the work being done under this campaign would surely increase the groundwater level in this district.
