Indore Reports Another Conjoined Twins Case; Survival Chance Below 0.1% |

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Another case of conjoined twins was reported in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore on Friday, in which a baby girl was born with two heads, two hearts, four arms, and two legs, but shares one chest and abdomen.

A similar incident was reported in the city in the month of July, in which the twins had two heads and two hearts, however, they shared one body.

In the recent case, doctors said there is no possibility of separating the bodies through surgery, as most major organs are shared.

Currently, the baby is in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at MY Hospital, on oxygen support. Her condition is stable. In 24 hours of observation, doctors noticed that when one head cries, the other head’s organs react, and the second baby wakes up.

The baby was delivered via C-section on August 13 at Maharaja Tukojirao Hospital (MTH) and then referred to MY Hospital. This is the couple’s first child. A medical team is closely monitoring her, with further tests planned.

Medically, this rare condition is known as conjoined twins. In this specific form, called Parapagus Dicephalus, two heads share one torso. Such cases are extremely rare, occurring in only 1 in 50,000 to 200,000 births.

Survival chances less than 0.1%

Last month, another baby with two heads and one body was born in Indore’s MTH hospital. She survived for 16 days before passing away at home in Dewas.

According to experts, survival chances in such cases are less than 0.1%.

“The previous baby had one weak heart and one damaged heart, making survival extremely difficult,” they said. Doctors had ruled out surgery, as the heads were connected from the neck.
