Indore (Madhya Pradesh): With traffic congestion worsening on the Dewas side of AB Road—particularly near the under-construction overbridge at Arjun Barod village—district administration has swung into action. Quick Response Teams (QRTs) comprising Traffic Police, IMC, and Home Guard personnel have been constituted to respond immediately to traffic jams and restore smooth flow.
At a high-level meeting held on Friday, Collector Asheesh Singh directed officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), IMC, Traffic Police, and PWD to ensure uninterrupted traffic movement across city and highway stretches during the monsoon.
Singh, calling the situation “grave,” stressed that traffic must not be allowed to choke at any cost during rains. “There should be immediate and visible action at jam-prone points. Coordination between departments is non-negotiable,” he told officials.
Trouble spot: Arjun Barod to Kshipra
The worst-affected stretch is near Arjun Barod, close to Kshipra, where an overbridge under construction has thrown traffic into disarray. NHAI was instructed to immediately carry out surface repairs and place paver blocks wherever needed to ease vehicular movement.
Heavy vehicles choking bypass
Heavy truck traffic is a major contributor to snarls on the Bypass. As a solution, the administration has proposed three alternative routes:
* Heavy vehicles going to Ujjain via Dewas: Manpur, Ghata Billod, Lebad, Badnawar, Badnagar
* Heavy vehicles going to Bhopal: Devguradia, Double Chowki, Chapra (old Nemawar Road)
* Heavy vehicles going to Kshipra: Dakachha, Jaipuriya
Quick response teams in action
To manage city traffic swiftly, QRTs will now be stationed to respond instantly at choke points. These teams, made up of traffic police, IMC workers, and home guards, will coordinate directly with zonal officers for efficient management.
No challans during monsoon
In a citizen-friendly move, the administration has decided not to issue challans during the rainy season, as the motorists face challenges in navigating pothole-ridden, waterlogged roads.
