Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Sajan Nagar witnessed celebrations after a liquor shop in the area was shifted following long-standing protests by residents.
Locals, along with Mayor-in-Council member Manish Sharma “Mama”, marked the development with drumbeats, dancing and distribution of sweets outside the former shop premises on Wednesday. Firecrackers were also burst to celebrate the move.
The liquor outlet, which sold country and foreign liquor, was located in a densely populated residential area. Residents, particularly women, had repeatedly complained about inconvenience caused by people drinking openly near the shop. Frequent gatherings made it difficult for locals to pass through the area.
Sharma had earlier written to the district collector and the excise department, urging relocation of the shop. After the demand was accepted, the outlet was shifted from Sajan Nagar to Chitawad in the new financial year.
Following the decision, residents, including women and students, gathered at the site to celebrate the relocation with sweets, music and fireworks. The move brought relief to the neighbourhood, which had been demanding action for a long time.
