Indore: Narcotics Control Bureau organises awareness programs against drug abuse

Over 1,500 take part in human chain at Vijay Nagar Square

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) celebrated ‘Nashe Se Azadi Pakhwada’ (from June 12 to June 26). On this occasion, various activities were organised by the officials to spread public awareness against drug abuse. The 'Run against Drugs' (for 5 kilometres), 3-day signature campaign, skating, cycle and motorcycle rally in the city and Mandsaur etc were organised at various reputed institutes, Rajwada, 56 shops, C-21 mall, airport etc.

All the participants present in these events were administered an oath against drugs. To create awareness against drug abuse, pamphlets, stickers, and banners were displayed at different places in the state. Apart from this, awareness programmes in jails, street plays in various institutions, painting, essay competitions in schools, colleges, various programmes in collaboration with NGOs, drug de-addiction centres were also organised.

Brijendra Chowdhary, Zonal Director of NCB said that on Sunday, the NCB Indore zone organised a human chain with the help of more than 1500 people. Officials from BSF, CISF, NCC, various government and non-governmental organisations, people from many civil groups, students of different schools and colleges participated in the programme.

It is to be noted that the NCB is the nodal agency of the Government of India in the field of drug law enforcement and apart from apprehending criminals involved in drug trade. The bureau is also responsible for conducting various awareness programs, training and coordination with other enforcement agencies.

Rally taken out to mark Drug Prevention Day

Like every year, International Drug Prevention Day was celebrated in the Indore district for public awareness against drug abuse and illegal trade, on Sunday.

A public awareness rally was taken out from Gandhi Hall and ended at Pritamlal Dua aauditorium complex. Officers and employees of various institutions of the Social Justice department also took part in this rally. They informed the people of Indore about the ill effects of drugs. A poster exhibition was also organised at Pritamlal Dua auditorium.

There was also a lecture on drug de-addiction, in which Prajapita Brahmakumari Ishwariya spoke about some measures that can be considered to stay away from drugs. Members of the Alcoholics Anonymous group expressed their views on intoxication.

Helpline issued by Alcoholics Anonymous Seva and Shakti Group Indore is 94073-89689, 88274-00744. Vivek of the group and Ratnesh administered the oath of not taking drugs. The children of CM Rise School performed excellently in the painting competition based on drug de-addiction.
