Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Medical College has issued a final notice to the company running the Maharaja Yeshwantrao (MY) Hospital’s laundry, ordering it to move out by April 15 due to continuous service deficiencies.

The action comes after multiple complaints and the expiration of the company’s contract in November 2023. The laundry, run by Fab Care Industrial Laundry, Gwalior, has faced repeated allegations of poor service, including dirty clothes, delays in delivery, unsanitary premises and disruptions in emergency services like OT.

Despite this, the company continued operations without a valid contract, raising questions about administrative oversight. The laundry, initially operated by hospital staff, was privatized in 2018 under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. While the system initially improved, service quality reportedly declined over time. Despite the completion of a new tender process six months ago, the old operator was not replaced, prolonging service issues.

The recently appointed MGM Medical College dean Dr VP Pandey took decisive action by issuing a three-month eviction notice. The operator must also obtain clearance from the Cancer Hospital, Super Specialty Hospital, MTH and the School of Excellence for Eye before leaving. Complaints against the laundry also include failure to pay utility bills, staff misconduct and pressuring officials for payments. The notice also highlights concerns raised in audits about service irregularities.
