Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A security guard suffered burn injuries after a massive fire engulfed a godown in Guru Nanak Timber Market at around 4:15 AM on Friday. Prima facie, the fire appeared to have been caused by a short-circuit. The fire brigade managed to douse the flames after struggling for four hours. A massive financial loss is expected as the furniture, teak (sagwan) wood, different machines and tin sheds were gutted. A bike and a van were also damaged.

The security guard was identified as Shailendra, son of Chetram. Fire brigade officials believed that he might have suffered burn injuries while escaping or dousing the flames. He was rushed to the MY hospital where he is undergoing treatment. Sub-inspector Charan Singh Rajput of the fire brigade said that the blaze erupted in Gokul Timber godown owned by one Jaya Patel at around 4:15 AM. Four fire tenders were sent to the spot for the firefighting operation. The fire brigade used more than 2 lakh litres of water to extinguish the blaze.

Fireman transferred for reaching spot in inebriated state

A fireperson Virendra Rawat reached the spot in an inebriated state. The traders did not allow him to enter the blazing godown as he could have also got burnt while trying to extinguish the fire. After the complaint, the fire brigade department transferred Rawat from the control room in Timber Market to Moti Tabela.
