Indore: Operational safety of flights at Devi Ahilyabai Holkar airport has been enhanced. Rubber removal machine has been brought to remove rubber from runway. The machine will replace manual work and eliminate human errors. It is the only airport in the state to have the facility, which will work in all seasons. The deposition of rubber on runway affects movement of aircrafts.

As flights operate 24X7 at the city airport, there is frequent landing and taking-off of the flights. As a result, the rubber of wheels of aircrafts deposits on the runway due to friction caused during take-off and landing. The removal of rubber from runway is necessary as its deposition increases chances of aircrafts slipping from its track.

Airport director Aryama Sanyal told Free Press that runway rubber removal machine costs Rs 5.37 crore and is made in the US. This is among 10 such machines purchased by AAI for airports in Chennai, Kolkata, Ahmadabad, Guwahati, Jaipur, Trivandrum, Lucknow, Bhubaneswar, Calicut and Indore.
