Indore: The measles rubella (M-R) vaccination campaign hits the consent wall of private schools in the city as more than 160 private schools have refused to participate in the campaign. Out of 350 private schools in the city, about 160 schools are still restricting themselves from participating in the campaign even after two days of its launch.

According to Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr Pravin Jadia, “Some of the private schools are excusing parents’ consent in participating in the campaign. However, we have organised workshops for them to educate about the campaign and vaccine which doesn’t have any side effect.”

A meeting of schools and district collector was also held in Collector’s office with the aim to increase their participation.
“Now, it has been decided that District Education Officer will send them letters to motivate them for participation,” Dr Jadia said. Meanwhile, the district health officers informed the collector about achieved target in the three days campaign.

“We have covered about 1 lakh children in Indore district. We have a target of vaccinating about 10 lakh children between the age group of 9 months and 15 years. We are getting a positive response from the people,” the CMHO added. Meanwhile, various cases of children falling sick after being vaccinated were reported but no serious cases have been reported. “Yes, few children had fallen sick after they were administered the vaccine but immediate medical care was provided to them. Most of them were those who had fear from the syringe,” the health officer added.
