Indore: In Indore and Bhopal Metro project Alstom win contract to deliver 52 Metro trains worth Rs 3,200 Cr

It also includes the installation of the latest generation of communications based train control (CBTC) signalling system as well as train control and telecommunication systems; each with seven years of comprehensive maintenance.

Well-known French company Alstom was awarded a contract of 3,200 cr to deliver 156 Movia metro trains for Indore and Bhopal metro rails by the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL) on Wednesday. Alstom has provided metro cars to several cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai among others in the country.

Along with the contract comes the obligation of comprehensive maintenance for 15 years.

Alstom will be responsible for the design, manufacture, supply, installation, test, and commissioning of 52 standard gauge Movia metro passenger train sets of 3-car configuration each. 27 train sets will be for Bhopal and 25 train sets for Indore.

A Metro rail official said that there were only two companies which participated in the tender process and Alstom won the tenders. The company has to deliver the trains by next year and the delivery is expected to start by August 2023.

Alstom officials said

What Metro trains will be there?

The trains will be manufactured in Savli (Gujarat) and these ultramodern, light-weight trains will operate at a top speed of 80 km/h, across the 31 km line in Bhopal with 30 stations and the 31.5 km line in Indore with 29 stations. Built with light but strong stainless steel car bodies, air-conditioned cars are developed with a strong emphasis on eco-friendly design. The trains are powered with modern energy-efficient propulsion systems with regenerative braking.
