Indore (Madhya Pradesh): In a significant step toward sustainable water management, the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) is constructing two major channels to enhance rainwater harvesting and rejuvenate traditional water bodies under the CM Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan.

The project is part of the city’s ongoing mission to conserve every drop of rainwater and restore ponds, wells and stepwells across Indore. The first channel is being constructed from Omaxe City Bypass via Mundi Lake to Rau-Bilawali, covering a total length of 2.8 kilometres, of which 1.6 km have already been completed.

The second channel originates from Nehru Van Gram via Morad Kilod and Kartar to Bilawali Lake, with a planned length of 3.0 kilometres. However, only 500 metres of work has been completed so far.

During an on-site inspection on Saturday, municipal comissioner Shivam Verma reviewed the progress of the construction and expressed concern over the delay.

He instructed officials to accelerate the pace of work and ensure both channels were completed before the onset of the monsoon. The commissioner emphasised the critical importance of completing the infrastructure in time to facilitate uninterrupted flow of rainwater into Bilawali Lake, preventing waterlogging and optimising water conservation.

The initiative aims to channelise rainwater from surrounding urban and semi-urban areas into Bilawali Lake, increasing groundwater recharge and enhancing the lake’s water-holding capacity.
