The search by investigation wing of income tax department at premises of Pravin Kakkad, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) of chief minister Kamal Nath concluded on late Monday night. Though the sleuths could not seize cash or jewellery from him, they took away crucial mobile data and other documents. They will retrieve the deleted mobile phone data.
Kakkad came on department’s radar at about 3.30 am on Sunday when department sleuths barged into his residence in Scheme No 74 in Vijay Nagar area. This high profile search action concluded on late night of Monday at around 1.30 am. All the six locations belonging to Kakkad and his family were under search and survey.
The premise under the search action were Vijay Nagar bungalow, son Salil Kakkad’s at BCM Heights, Shalimar Township, Jalwa and Water Lilly garden, Vardhan Complex at RNT Marg (office of CA Rakesh Raka, financial consultant of Kakkad) and residence of Lalit Chhablani, a partner in Jalsa Garden. Sources said jewellery worth Rs 72 lakh was found from premises and lockers but were not seized. A team of 30 officers and 100 personnel of CRPF from New Delhi conducted high profile search against Kakkad, his family members and associates.
‘I have nothing to do with hawala, political funding’
Pravin Kakkad said he has nothing to do with hawala or political funding as CBDT has stated in its press release on Monday. Following the end of search action, talking to mediapersons at his residence on late Monday night, Kakkad said income tax officials could not find any illegal. He alleged that department officials entered his house by breaking the door. “It was a politically motivated action,” he said.
