Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Shattered by the recent death of his wife and distressed by his own terminal illness, a 37-year-old man took a decision no parent would ever take. Afraid to leave his child alone in the world without parents, he decided to end his life and to take his son along with him on his final journey.

He poisoned his four-year-old son to death and then ended his life by hanging himself in his house under Tukoganj police station limits on Friday afternoon.

The man was suffering from tuberculosis and a few days ago, doctors told him that he was diagnosed with blood cancer. Three months earlier, his wife had died due to illness. Concerned about who would care for his son after his death, he decided to end his life after killing his son.

At the time of the incident, his elderly father, who is visually impaired, was present in the same room where the incident occurred, listening to music, unaware of what was happening.

According to police, the deceased was identified as Bablesh alias Bablu Tandad and his son as Harman Tandad, residents of Goma Ki Phel. His family members said that Bablu hanged himself after poisoning his son Harman.

Bablu had also left a suicide note stating: “Doctors told me I have blood cancer. I don’t have much time left. After I die, who will look after my son? That’s why I’m taking him with me.”

The incident came to light when Bablu’s younger brother returned home and found him hanging, with the body of his nephew lying nearby. Their blind father, who was in the same room, remained oblivious of what had happened as he could not see and also because he was listening to loud music.

Wife died three months ago

Family members said Bablesh worked as an e-rickshaw driver. He, his wife Sonali, and their son Harman had all been diagnosed with tuberculosis, though Bablesh and Harman had recovered. His wife, however, also caught jaundice, which led to her death. Just days earlier, on May 10, Bablu had joyfully celebrated Harman’s birthday with a family gathering at Harman’s maternal grandmother’s home.

He had sent his brother to collect an RTE form

Before taking the drastic step, Bablu had sent his younger brother to collect an RTE (Right to Education) form for his son’s school admission. When the brother returned about half an hour later, he found them dead.
